Strapping four-year-old Tyson Rules made an impressive return to racing when he scored first-up in class-record time at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Spelled after his unplaced debut run at the Gold Coast in April, Tyson Rules resumed in Saturday’s FSG Australia Maiden Plate (900m).
The 17h gelding, sent out the $1.90 favourite, dwarfed runner-up Millyen ($4.60) and drew away to score by two lengths. Tyson Rules stopped the clock at 50.84sec, lowering Danangel’s previous class record of 51.24 set in 2004.
Tyson Rules is by the Last Tycoon stallion Tycoon Ruler, who stands at Clear Mountain Fairview, out of the five-time winner Senorita Peta.
Part-owner Geoff Kerrison, a former Gold Coast Turf Club committeeman, was delighted to be back associated with another winner. Kerrison has had plenty of success over the years, particularly with full-brothers Amex and Amex Gold.
Amex (in 2004) and Amex Gold (in 2008) have the distinction of holding the race records for the Magic Millions Cup and Magic Millions Country Cup respectively.
“It’s nice to back with a winner and he’s done a good job winning first-up in good time,’’ said Kerrison.
“He was bred by Benny Chan, who raced his dam Senorita Peta and she was very well bred being out of Showzam, a top New Zealand filly.
“Senorita Peta is a mare who has big foals and this bloke (Tyson Rules) is the same. He’s around 17 hands and has needed time to develop.’’
